Lately, the issue of plastic waste has become a hot topic discussed everywhere. Plastic waste is now a frightening pollution in the surrounding environment and also a threat to the survival of living beings, both on land and sea. And it is not a secret that Indonesia is one of the highlighted contributors of plastic waste in the ocean. Even in Bali, beaches that become tourist destinations are often criticized for being contaminated with plastic waste. This requires the hard work of all parties to work together in overcoming the problem of this plastic problem.

In response to the plastic problem, Komaneka Resorts has launched Beach Cleaning Program that is done every month; usually on Saturday of the last week. This activity is carried out at Komaneka at Keramas Beach as the only property of Komaneka which has a beach. So the team usually starts within the resort area and continue along the path of Keramas Beach. This activity involves all layers of the Komaneka Family; it includes managers and staffs.

The F & B Manager of Komaneka Resorts, Mr. Made Darmayasa, is the initiator of this beach cleaning program. He said that this activity was a form of concern for the environment. “We want to awaken awareness of the importance of overcoming this plastic waste, starting with ourselves.” he added.

Ms. Liza Elizabeth, the Senior Sales Manager, who participated in the Beach Cleaning program on Saturday, July 27, 2019, voiced her opinion. She strongly supports this program because its positive effect is not only for human but for the environment and marine life. “We can not force others to clean it, we show them how. For a big change, we have to start from ourselves” she added.

On the other hand, the management of Komaneka has limited the use of plastic in the operational processes within the resorts and replaced them with environmentally friendly products. This applies to all Komaneka resorts, including the four resorts in Ubud.
