Mekotekan: Preserved Tradition in Mengwi Village
Once every 210 days, on the holy day of Kuningan, there is a special ceremony held in Munggu Village, Mengwi, in the regency of Badung, Bali, called Mekotekan. In this ritual, young men gather with long bamboo poles, around three-and-a-half meters long. After performing prayers, they split into two groups and use the bamboos to battle each other (yet not hitting each other) and then to form a tall cone with the bamboo poles, as a symbol of triumph.
