Nestling in a secret place, the Hidden Canyon is a special travel destination for local and foreign visitors.

The Hidden Canyon is called Beji Guwang by local villagers. Beji means ‘sacred spring’, while Guwang is the name of the village where this beautiful secret place is found. It is close to Sukawati Art Market, located in Banjar Wangbung, Guwang Village, Sukawati, in Gianyar. It is about a 30-minute drive from Denpasar, and approximately 15 minutes from our home by the sea, Komaneka at Keramas.

The pathway to the hidden canyon is quite challenging: you will go down steps, pass through small streams, and climb small cliffs. The rocks in this area are slippery and sharp.

Yet all efforts will be rewarded with the sight of the clear blue water and black stone of Beji Guwang Hidden Canyon. The river is situated between 30-meter high stone walls that are naturally formed in amazing shapes and patterns.

Close to the canyon, there is a temple called the Pura Beji for the villagers to take holy water (tirta), and for praying. The hidden canyon is also located close to a temple called Pura Dalem Guwang. The canyon is a sacred place in Guwang village — therefore it is important to follow the rules of manners and dress while visiting this beautiful place. Visitors may want to use the service of local guides. They will help to carry bags as well as reminding guests of appropriate behavior.

Although there is no signpost leading to this place, local villagers will be happy to give hints for visitors. Besides, the location is easily found through online maps. Will you make it one of your traveling destinations in Bali?
