Many people adore Bali for its beauty, culture, and the generosity of the people. Some places, such as Kuta, Sanur, Nusa Dua, and Ubud, are well known around the world. But not many know about the Keramas area.
Keramas village, part of Gianyar Regency, is about 40 minutes’ drive from Ubud and 55 minutes from Ngurah Rai International Airport. This rice-growing area is unspoiled by over-development and has a rich local cultural life. Its classical Balinese opera troupe is famous all over Bali. And its coast is beautiful. For this reason we chose it for our new resort home by the sea, Komaneka at Keramas Beach.
If you are eager to visit Keramas, and especially if you are staying at Komaneka at Keramas Beach, these are some things you can do to enjoy your days:
Visit the beach
The Keramas area has long volcanic black sand beaches, such as Keramas Beach, Saba Beach, and Masceti Beach. Towering palm trees grow along the beach, and some sea temples are found nearby. And restaurants are beginning to open along the coast. Keramas Beach with its pounding surf is wonderful for strolling along, but swimming is not suggested due to unpredictable currents. (The area is a favorite surfing spot.) Besides, the resort has a huge beachfront swimming pool.
Shopping
The Sukawati Art Market is not far from Keramas, easily accessible by air-conditioned car with driver. There are lots of handicrafts, clothes, Balinese sarongs, paintings, carvings, and temple decorations. Just like other traditional markets, you will need to bargain — but if you are patient and courteous, this can be fun.
Horse Riding
A special activity you may try is seaside horse riding. This is offered by an outside vendor and starts at Saba Beach, west of Keramas Beach. You will ride eastward with a guide and may pass in front of our home, Komaneka at Keramas Beach. If you are staying with us, your personal assistant can help you to arrange this activity in advance.
Romantic Dinner
A special dining experience can be arranged at Timur Kitchen, our open-air restaurant overlooking the sea. The fresh air and splendid views of Komaneka at Keramas naturally breathe love as the light turns soft in the evening. With candlelight and lanterns, flowers and wine, enjoy a beautiful dinner over specially tailored dishes of your choice.
There are many other activities to be found around Keramas, such as visiting a zoo or safari, exploring the traditional culinary market at Lebih Beach, and visiting temples. We would be happy to help you!
